The preoperative assessment: checking that surgery is suitable

Before any refractive surgery, several examinations check that the eye is suited to it. This selection determines eligibility and points toward the most suitable technique.

Corneal topography

The shape and the regularity of the cornea, to screen for keratoconus.

Pachymetry

The thickness of the cornea, which determines the margin of tissue available for the laser.

Pupil measurement

The diameter in low light, measured routinely at the assessment.

E F T O Z

Refraction and acuity

The exact degree to be corrected and its stability over time.

Fundus examination

The condition of the retina and the general condition of the eye.

This assessment determines the most suitable technique, or contraindicates surgery if necessary.
