Secondary cataract: YAG capsulotomy

Intraocular implant in the capsular bag, before and after YAG capsulotomy. Front view of the intraocular implant placed in the capsular bag. Before the laser, the posterior capsule becomes clouded behind the implant and blurs vision. After a YAG laser pulse, a clear opening is created at the centre of the capsule and vision becomes clear again. Before the laser: over time, the capsule behind the implant can become clouded and give a sensation of hazy vision.

After the YAG laser: a laser pulse opens a clear window at the centre of the capsule, and vision becomes clear again, with no incision.

Clouded capsule Laser opening

This is not a recurrence of cataract. The procedure is quick, carried out in consultation, with no incision and generally well tolerated.
