Ocular surface — Eyelids

Meibomian glands and chalazion

The edges of the eyelids contain small glands (the meibomian glands) that produce the oil of the tear film, the layer that stops tears from evaporating. When the glands become blocked, the eye becomes dry; sometimes a small cyst forms: the chalazion.
