Ophthalmologist for patients from L’Haÿ-les-Roses (94): Dr Moïse Tourabaly
Dr Moïse Tourabaly sees patients from L’Haÿ-les-Roses at his practice in Cachan, the neighbouring town. The practice is not in L’Haÿ-les-Roses: it is at 1 Ter Rue Camille Desmoulins, in Cachan (94230). It covers the full range of eye consultations — eye examinations, updating a prescription, children from the age of three, glaucoma, retina, dry eye — as well as the assessments and the follow-up for cataract, corneal and retinal surgery, and for refractive surgery.
GETTING HERE
Coming from L’Haÿ-les-Roses
By bus, with no change
Bus 187 (Porte d’Orléans – Fresnes) crosses L’Haÿ-les-Roses and then Cachan, with stops at Mairie de Cachan and Arcueil – Cachan RER. From either of these two stops, the practice is a few minutes’ walk away. L’Haÿ-les-Roses and Cachan adjoin: from the north of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, walking or cycling is often the simplest option.
From the L’Haÿ-les-Roses station on métro 14, opened in June 2024, make your way to a bus 187 stop: the 187 remains the direct route to Cachan. The same bus also serves patients from Fresnes.
By car
The two towns adjoin: the journey is short outside peak hours. Several public car parks are close to the practice, including the one on Rue Camille Desmoulins and the one at the town hall, as well as on-street parking in the surrounding roads. The practice is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
CONSULTATION
What the consultation covers
The Cachan practice provides the full range of eye consultations, not refractive surgery alone:
- Eye examination and optical correction — a first prescription, or a new one, for glasses and contact lenses. There is no need to go through your GP (médecin traitant) to see an ophthalmologist.
- Children — from the age of three, the age at which each eye can be tested separately using pictures or letters: eye examination, screening for amblyopia (lazy eye), measurement of the correction after dilating drops, and monitoring of myopia. Infants and younger children need a paediatric ophthalmology consultation, to which the practice refers them.
- Glaucoma — screening, intraocular pressure measurement, visual field testing, OCT of the optic nerve, and SLT laser where it is indicated.
- Retina — AMD, epiretinal membrane, monitoring of diabetic retinopathy, intravitreal injections in a dedicated room.
- Cornea — keratoconus, dry eye, follow-up after a transplant.
- Preoperative assessments for refractive and cataract surgery, and postoperative follow-up.
An eye emergency can be seen at the practice subject to availability; failing that, the patient is directed to the appropriate service. In the event of sudden loss of vision, severe eye pain or trauma, call 15 (the French emergency medical number).
TESTS
The tests available on site
The Cachan practice has OCT (imaging of the retina and the optic nerve), corneal topography and aberrometry, both carried out on the Sirius+, as well as IOLMaster optical biometry. It is this equipment that makes it possible to carry out the full preoperative assessment for refractive and cataract surgery here.
Dr Tourabaly’s second practice, in Paris 13th (12 Rue du Moulin des Prés), has a swept-source OCT with ultra-widefield angiography, visual field testing, retinal photography, and the argon laser — used in particular to wall off a retinal tear, which is not done in Cachan.
SURGERY
Surgery, and where it takes place
No surgical procedure takes place at the practice. The consultation, the assessment and the follow-up happen there; the operation itself is carried out in a clinic:
- Refractive surgery — LASIK, PRK, SMILE and PresbyLASIK at the Clinique Laser Victor Hugo (Paris 16th). The ICL phakic implant, for its part, is placed at the Clinique Sainte-Geneviève (Paris 14th).
- Corneal surgery — endothelial (DMEK), deep anterior lamellar (DALK) and penetrating transplants at the Clinique Sainte-Geneviève. Cross-linking and intracorneal ring segments, for their part, are carried out at the Clinique Laser Victor Hugo.
- Retinal surgery — vitrectomy, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane and macular hole at the Clinique Sainte-Geneviève.
- Cataract — Clinique Sainte-Geneviève.
Dr Moïse Tourabaly is a former chef de clinique at the Hôpital National des Quinze-Vingts (Sorbonne Université). His research work is on the cornea, and on transplantation in particular; eight of his papers are indexed on PubMed, five of them as first author. How the practice is organised is described on the page ophthalmologist in Cachan.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Does Dr Tourabaly hold consultations in L’Haÿ-les-Roses?
No. The practice is in Cachan, at 1 Ter Rue Camille Desmoulins (94230), in the neighbouring town. Bus 187 links L’Haÿ-les-Roses to Cachan with no change.
Which bus should I take from L’Haÿ-les-Roses?
Bus 187 (Porte d’Orléans – Fresnes), which crosses L’Haÿ-les-Roses and then Cachan and stops at Mairie de Cachan and at Arcueil – Cachan RER. The two towns adjoin: from the north of L’Haÿ, the practice can also be reached on foot.
Do I need a referral to book a consultation?
No: in France, ophthalmology is a direct-access specialty. For a prescription or renewal of glasses or contact lenses, and for glaucoma screening or follow-up, you can consult without going through your GP (médecin traitant), with the usual reimbursement. For any other reason, a consultation is still possible without a referral, but the Assurance Maladie, the French statutory health insurance, may reimburse it less well outside the coordinated care pathway (parcours de soins).
From what age are children seen?
From the age of three, the age at which each eye can be examined separately using pictures or letters. Infants and younger children are referred to a paediatric ophthalmology consultation.
Where do the operations take place?
In a clinic, in Paris, never at the practice. Refractive laser, cross-linking and intracorneal ring segments at the Clinique Laser Victor Hugo (Paris 16th); ICL, cataract, corneal transplants and retinal surgery at the Clinique Sainte-Geneviève (Paris 14th).
How do I book an appointment?
Online on Doctolib, or by telephone on +33 1 45 47 08 11.
